President’s Welcome
When you enrolled at Victoria you joined the community represented by the Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association (VUWSA). I am Max Hardy and I am privileged to be given the opportunity to represent your interests as President this year.
VUWSA has existed for 111 years to ensure that our time at Universtiy is academically and socially rewarding, that is equitable, and that you, our members, have access to necessary welfare and education support services. We make sure that you are properly represented across the University that your fees fund. A vibrant campus that offers the best possible student experience underpins all our activities.
2010 will see us reflect on our 111 year history, on those who have gone before us and all who have contributed to what we have today. Whether it’s building the Student Union Building, upgrading the dilapidated Quad through the Campus Hub Project or the Boyd-Wilson Field upgrade, ownership of Vic Books, the funding of clubs, independent and solid representation within the University, quality student media, and regular events and activities, VUWSA has been and continues to be an essential part of our campus life and student experience.
This year VUWSA is once again under threat and needs to prove itself. We are actuley aware of this, but it is not a daunting challenge. VUWSA proved itself last year in many ways and this year we can do much more than that. I will be leading an Association that stays true to its founding goals and philosophy – students serving students. I will be working with everyone at VUWSA to make sure we are a sustainable Association that you will be proud to be a member of.
VUWSA is strong when the student body is strong. Your students’ association is directed by students and relies on the active participation of thousands of students at different levels. So please, join a club or rep group, come to an Orientation event, become a student delegate, join a protest or campaign, stand for election, write for Salient or DJ on the VBC 88.3 FM, do anything, just get involved.
I look forward to the year ahead. Good luck with your studies.
Max Hardy
