Education Organiser

Dr Fiona Beals

Kia ora, Kia orana, Talofa, Hello, my name is Fiona Beals. I am the Education Organiser here at VUWSA. I oversee the student representatives VUWSA has across the university. I also provide the Executive advice on current, and up and coming policies in the University.

I’m essentially here to make sure the system works and to ensure that the student voice and opinion is heard at all levels in the university decision-making process. This starts in each course with class representatives and moves to faculty with faculty delegates and university boards and communities with the Executive and a number of other representatives.

Student Advocate

Lorraine Guthrie

I am delighted to be working on your behalf as a Student Advocate. As your Student Advocate I can provide you with support, guidance, information and advice on processes and procedures and will work with you to resolve difficult situations. Issues our office can assist you with could be any (but not limited to) of the following;

• Financial  -  Studylink, WINZ, IRD, employment, tenancy  or hardship
• Course related – assessment, grading, workload, academic grievance, plagiarism, resourcing
• Statute of Student Conduct Issues

Our advocacy team will listen to your concerns, explore options, support and guide you towards a solution.  We are confident we can support you in both simple and complex issues so we welcome queries of any kind.  If we cannot help directly, we have built up strong relationships with external organisations and we know who to refer you to.

Providing you with a professional, confidential and useful service is important to us.  We are available to Undergraduate students from all University campuses, Online/Distance students, International and Postgraduate students. Clubs and Events Manager

Melissa Barnard

Melissa is the first point of contact for anything concerning the 40 sports and 50 cultural clubs that exist on campus.

Our Clubs and Events team will help students set up clubs, assist clubs with becoming affiliated to VUWSA and help existing clubs run successfully. VUWSA raise the profile of clubs, their activities and national university competitions through training, funding, sponsorship and quality promotions.  Whether you are a club member, student, university employee, sponsor or local business, feel free to contact us.

This is also the hub where all our major events are planned, organised and implemented.  Everything from Orientation, Reorientation, Uni Games, Snow Games, Blues Awards (and much more) and all other social events throughout the year.  If you have any suggestions about what events you would like offered to you please let us know.

Hi, my name is Connie Gilfillan and I am the Representative Groups Administrator for VUWSA.
