Student Democracy
Maintaining student democracy is an important campaign in itself. VUWSA strives to ensure that all students have access to your students’ association and to information you require to make informed decisions. Some of the ways this is achieved is via Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings, General Meetings, the Education Action Group, stop lecture meetings, and the funding of Salient and the VBC 88.3FM.
SRC’s allow students to directly formulate VUWSA policy. For more information about SRC’s click here.
Student media also has a role to play in ensuring student democracy. In its annual budget VUWSA allocates funding to Salient. Since 2009, 1% of student levies are received by the VBC 88.3FM, in order to help pay for the station’s operational costs. These mediums provide students with means by which you can communicate with the student body and remain informed about issues affecting you, both as students and as citizens.
Every Tuesday, between 10-11am, VUWSA’s Campaigns Team host a show known as Campaigns Hour on the VBC 88.3FM. This is an hour devoted to promoting discussion and action on issues affecting students and is another important facet of facilitating student democracy.
