The conservation biology chapter provides local projects for students and staff and supports local community projects.
The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity.
The VUW Chapter is a local Chapter based at Victoria University of Wellington and we are heavily involved in conservation projects in and around the Greater Wellington Region. Our main projects include: Places for Penguins – restoration of little blue penguin habitat, construction and placement of nesting boxes, penguin monitoring; Kumutoto Restoration – An ecological restoration project just down the road by the tennis courts.
This year we will be trapping, monitoring, bird counting, planting and weeding; Marine Conservation – A new project that aims to do a Wellington Harbour clean up dive, beach clean-ups and restoration of marine flora and fauna.
