Tongan Students’ Association

Malo e lelei! Tonga is also known as the “friendly islands”—a deserving alias duly reflected by Wellington Tongan Students’ Association.

The purpose of this group is to encourage students at Victoria University to engage in and learn the Tongan culture. This group will teach many of the Tongan ways so that the culture is shared and Tongan students feel a belonging within the University.

It’s an annual tradition for this group to take part in the national Tongan conference, Amatakiloa, in July each year. Other activities such as performances around the Wellington community will be done to promote the culture in a beneficial way and preparing for the Tongan Language Week in September 2014.
