Japanese drumming, drumming, physical, disciplined
Taiko is a dynamic art form originating from ancient Japan. Taiko was used throughout history for communication, military action, theatrical accompaniment, religious ceremony, and festival and concert performances. Modern Japanese taiko drumming was created in 1951 when a jazz musician in Japan transcribed an old piece of written taiko, added his own rhythms and transformed the piece to accommodate multiple taiko players and drums.
Open to beginners of all levels and capabilities, the Narukami Taiko team incorporates movement and rhythm to create powerful performances that command audiences. We work together to learn the principles of Taiko, performance techniques, modern taiko songs and traditional festival tunes.
