Fencing
The Art of Fencing is one that has evolved throughout periods of history and has survived the decay of civilizations. Fencing was used to settle matters of dispute or wounded pride and was seen as an honourable art. Of course in this modern world, Fencing is no longer looked upon in this sense, but rather has become an international sport. Fencing weaponry today consists of three different weapons with varying physical styles. These weapons are Foil, Epee and Sabre. The Fencing Club at Victoria University is called Vic Swords. Our goal is to enable people to learn (from beginners to advanced) the sport of Fencing. Beginners start with Foil and Sabre. Vic Swords has one training a week, Saturday 1-4pm. Training is held in the Long Room (Level 1 of the Recreation Centre on Kelburn Campus). Beginners can use club gear and participate socially as well as in competitions. This does require fencers to affiliate which is $45. If you are interested in trying out Fencing or want additional information, please email us at vuwfencing@gmail.com.
