Your voice at Victoria

You have representatives across the University and within VUWSA that ensure your voice are always heard.

Student representation is essential to the overall student experience at Victoria. It is VUWSA’s core function because students must always have a strong say in the decisions that affect them. There are currently over 800 student representatives at all levels that help ensure our interests as students are protected at both at Victoria and on a national level.

Overseeing all representation at Victoria is VUWSA, your Students’ Association. VUWSA is the official representative body responsible for the selection of representatives across courses, schools and faculties and for the protection of student interests.  VUWSA works on the philosophy of students serving students.

Why is student representation important?

Having strong student representation at Victoria ensures our voices are heard at all levels of decsion making at Victoria. It also:

  • Improves the academic outcomes and experiences of students. This, in turn, can include higher retention and success rates;
  • Strengthens all levels of decision-making within the wider University ensuring that students are considered at each level and that final decisions are fair;
  • Facilitates the development of quality student-centered learning based on the relationship between academics and students;
  • Empowers students and encourage the development of leadership, communication and creative and critical thinking;
  • Leads to more responsive and appropriate student services, which are delivered cost-effectively;
  • Avoids unnecessary conflict between the student body and the University.
