New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations
NZUSA – Your national voice
VUWSA is a founding member of the New Zealand Union of Students’ Associations (NZUSA). Since 1928 NZUSA has been a federation of students’ associations and the largest student body in the country. The VUWSA President is a member of its governing body, and with other member associations, dictate NZUSA’s activities.
NZUSA’s main role is as a national voice for tertiary students. NZUSA believes that it is fundamentally important to stand up for student and graduate rights, fight against the student loan scheme, towards high quality and barrier free tertiary education, and advocates for equal access for all.
NZUSA lobbies the Government, provides information to the general public and liaises with the media on student issues. NZUSA has help to win students such things as interest-free student loans, caps on fee increases, increased pastoral care and student support, and many other student friendly policies.
In 2012 the President is Pete Hodkinson. The National Women’s Rights Officer is Ta’ase Vaoga.
