Student Representative Council

Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings are held every second Wednesday at 1pm at the Mount Street Bar and Cafe), during term time in the first and second trimesters.

Dates for the rest of the 2009 academic year are: 19 of August, 09, 23 September and 07 October.

SRC meetings may also be held on an ad hoc basis at other University locations.

In contrast to general meetings (where policy passed is binding on the VUWSA Executive), policy set at SRC’s is not binding on the VUWSA Executive but is often used as an indication of student opinion.

SRC’s are public meetings for all students to come and debate the issues of the day. This is the place you get to publicly ask questions of VUWSA Executive members, and debate pressing issues both in the University and society generally.

Students can move motions from the floor, and if it passes it becomes SRC policy, which is one way students can give feedback to the Executive.

An example of this was in 2008 when students at a SRC passed a motion that “VUWSA derides the University for their lack of consultation with students and we oppose any moves to close the Film School”. As a result of this VUWSA and the EAG ran campaigns which successfully stopped the University closing the Film School in 2008.

SRC’s are fun and often involve humour and high spirits. VUWSA often has guest speakers such as politicians and performers at these meetings. We strongly encourage the participation of student clubs and Representative Groups at SRC’s.
