VUWSA brings you the sex talk you wish you had with Sex Week 2019!
VUWSA has partnered up with Victoria University of Wellington, MAWSA and Wellington City Council for the sex talks of all sex talks; one where we are smashing stigmas and having open conversations about all areas of sex.
So, let’s talk about sex
Like… really talk about it.
We believe fun, informed, enthusiastic and safe sex should be at the centre of everyone’s experiences. So as part of our commitment to end sexual harm in Wellington, Sex Week presents the opportunity for open and informative conversations with people who really know their stuff!
No matter whether you’re having sex, waiting for ‘the one’, happy on your own, or somewhere in between, everyone has the right to learn about their bodies and how to have healthy relationships with others and themselves.
Join us for activities, stalls, goods for sale and fundraising for organisations who are committed to ending harmful sexual behaviour at a campus close to you!

What is Bystander Intervention
Bystander intervention involves safe intervention before, during or after a situation where inappropriate behaviours are observed. Bystander Intervention fosters a safe environment by challenging unhelpful norms and beliefs within your community groups and interrupting unsafe situations.
This can be achieved in a safe, non-threatening way and can be achieved in five steps:
Notice that something is happening
Recognise the behaviour as a problem that requires intervention
Take personal responsibility to do something
Decide how to intervene (realistic, tangible examples given in VUW video). For example:
Distract the person acting inappropriately
Directly address the issue if safe e.g. tell them that their behaviour isn’t okay
Delegate for someone else to help out, e.g. an RA, a bartender, or the police for help
Intervene safely.
Instructions:
Step 1
Get together a group of mates within your hall and create a 40-second video on bystander intervention
Step 2
